Happy birthday to Constantin Brancusi who was born on this day in 1876! The patriarch of modern sculpture was often at the center of scandal regarding his work. Princess X was removed from the Salon de Indépendants in 1920 on grounds of obscenity and despite being declared a phallus by many, Brancusi insisted the sculpture was a portrayal of a feminine ideal.
Visit the Museum to see the largest collection of Brancusi’s sculptures in the United States and decide for yourself.
